Once upon a time, in the ancient city of Varanasi, there lived an old man with two daughters: Kanitha (played by Kukkik Kotchakorn) and Kanithee (played by Chompunut Phuengphon).

Though they were sisters, Kanitha, the elder, was far more beautiful than Kanithee. Wherever they went together, men always turned their attention to Kanitha — which planted deep hatred and jealousy in Kanithee’s heart.

Even Phatika, a young wealthy man (played by Malit Choeysophon), fell for Kanitha and asked for her hand in marriage.

Consumed by envy, Kanithee begged her father to let her marry Phatika as well. Though Phatika was wealthy, he was extremely stingy — still going out to catch fish himself to sell at the market.

Phatika was utterly infatuated with Kanitha and completely ignored Kanithee. This neglect fueled Kanithee’s resentment even more.

Later, both sisters gave birth around the same time. Phatika named Kanitha's daughter “Euay”, and Kanithee's daughter “Ai”.

As the days passed, Kanithee grew bitter with how she was being treated. She secretly visited a local shaman (played by Yuwadee Ruangchai) to cast a love spell on Phatika.

Chaem (Chonlamark T. Chiangthong) and Chom (Tao Chernyim), the shaman’s assistants, revealed that Phatika had hidden a stash of gold. Driven by greed, the shaman agreed to help Kanithee, and warned that Phatika must avoid alcohol to keep the spell strong.

From that point on, Phatika changed completely — becoming harsh and abusive toward Kanitha.

She was heartbroken, but did her best to protect her daughter.

As Euay and Ai (played by Kesarin Noiphueng) grew older, Phatika’s stinginess pushed the servants to leave the house.

Kanitha and Euay were forced to do all the work. Whenever Kanitha went fishing with Phatika, Euay would be beaten by Kanithee and Ai.

Thankfully, she had good friends: Jee (Kulpariya Sornnil), Ueng (Suppakorn Jinrawat), and Klin (Laksika Sombun), who always helped and stood up for her.

One fateful day, Phatika and Kanitha went fishing. No matter how many times they cast the net, they caught only a single pregnant golden goby fish — and every time they released it, it swam back to them.

As evening fell, Phatika decided to keep the fish. But Kanitha, feeling sorry for the pregnant creature, pleaded for its release.

A struggle ensued. In a rage, Phatika struck Kanitha with an oar, knocking her into the river.

Kanitha couldn’t swim. As she drowned before his eyes, Phatika — still under the spell — just stood there, satisfied.

When he finally came to his senses and jumped in to search, she was already gone.

Back home, Euay asked where her mother was, but Phatika lied, saying she ran away with another man.

Though Euay didn’t believe it, her mother never returned.

From that day forward, Kanithee and Ai tormented Euay daily.

Phatika knew but didn’t care. Euay missed her mother terribly and often cried by the riverbank.

With her dying spirit filled with concern for her daughter and the golden fish, Kanitha was reincarnated as the Golden Goby.

She swam back to the riverbank and found Euay crying. Speaking to her daughter, Euay was overjoyed to hear her mother's voice again — though heartbroken to learn she had passed away.
